Maine Medical Center Archives Facts

Founded:
The Archives in Maine Medical Center were established in 1989 to document and preserve the long running history of the institution, which dates back to 1874 in its earliest form as the Maine General Hospital.

Collections:
The Maine Medical Center Archives maintain a collection of approximately 3,000 photos dealing with Maine Medical Center and other health related subjects. The minutes and annual reports of Maine Medical Center are kept there as well, as are those of other medical institutions in Maine. The Archives also keep a small assortment of medical equipment circa 1850 and a collection of 1,000 or so monographs, relating to the health field, that date back to 1767.

Facilities:
The Maine Medical Center Archives are located in Maine Medical Center itself. They are on the fifth floor of Pavilion C, in the hospital's library.
